Franz Schubert spent the spring and summer of 1817 composing piano sonatas and when autumn came and he discovered some residual thoughts for piano scherzos floating around his head, he simply put them down on paper as two self-standing scherzos and left it at that. In 1871, these two slender works found their way into print as the 2 Scherzos for piano, and Otto Erich Deutsch entered them in Pianist Dong Min Lim, who in 2005 became the first Korean to win a prize at the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, released last month his first album in eight years, "Chopin & Schumann." To promote his new album, he will go on a nationwide tour to play pieces such as Schumann's "Kinderszenen Op.15" and Chopin's "Scherzos. As for the Scherzos, I'm not sure whether 3 or 1 is easier, but 4 is the most difficult. Actually 1, 2 and 3 are fairly similar in difficulty although 2 is the most difficult of the 3. As for the Ocean etude, I wouldn't say it's one of the harder ones, though I wouldn't say it's one of the easiest ones either.
